Cecil + Bill

This past week, Bill was adamant about me finding the perfect outfit, getting my hair and nails done. He said we were going to take some bio pictures for our website at Connetquat State Park over the weekend. So, the morning of March 5, 2011, Bill made sure I had woken up early, but not too early to the point where I was going to be tired later during the day. But, waking up at 9am on a Saturday is tough for me if we’re not photographing a client. So, I woke up at 9am, got ready by 10am and got my nails done by 10:45am.  We left the house by 11am, then told him I was hungry, so we stopped by a bagel shop and grabbed something to eat. By then, it was almost noon. I felt bad that it took 3 hours to finally head to to the park (it’s about 15-20 min drive from his home).

By the time we got to the park, we went to scout out some spots for us to take our “Bio pictures.” Bill and I thought it was nice  to setup our equipment by a deck where it was peaceful and serene. And this is where the story begins…

We were on top of a deck that was about a foot above the water and 3 feet wide. I was wearing a thin dress, freezing my butt off while Bill was adjusting his camera, and yelling at him to hurry up. haha. After a good few mins of Bill setting up his equipment, he finally walked over and I asked how we should pose. His response was.. “hm, I don’t know. But, Cecil, I just wanted to let you know that this is our Engagement photo shoot.” At this point, I was utterly confused and thought he was mocking me because I had joked about where my ring was the weekend before- at the same location. I didn’t have  a ring yet, so, I asked,”what do you mean? You mean.. like a pre-engagement shoot?” Only because that seemed like it made more sense- but does pre-engagement shoot even exist? haha. “No.. this is our engagement shoot.” After Bill had given me his beautiful commitment speech that he  practiced for,  he pulled out a small box out of his pocket and got down on his one knee and asked “will you marry me?” My initial reaction was this joyous tear waiting to burst, but on top of that deck, the wind was blowing so hard, that it wasn’t coming out so my next reaction was to laugh. I couldn’t stop laughing, and still, Bill is on his one knee waiting for me to stop laughing and to say ‘Yes’. (Bill’s version of the story is so much better).

“Bill, if you ever pop that big question, I have two rules for you: 1. Make sure I look good. 2. Make sure it gets recorded.”

It was the best weekend ever! The ring also means so much to the family because it belongs to his great grandmother. I am so glad and so honored to even have it. And for Bill wanting to spend the rest of his life with me means so much more! 🙂 I love you, Bill! And I can not wait to spend my entire life with you.

Bill had it recorded the whole time and we dare not to watch it… maybe.
